Fall Sports Team Stores Open Earlier as School Apparel Demand Climbs

As fall sports registration opens across the country, schools, booster clubs and youth leagues are setting up team apparel stores earlier this summer to lock in gear before the first practice.
The custom side of team sports is bigger than most people assume. One market analysis values the global team sports apparel market at $5.22 billion in 2026, on a path toward $8.7 billion by 2035. The wider youth sports economy that feeds much of that spending was worth close to $62 billion in 2026. Uniforms, spirit wear and sideline gear make up a large slice of what parents, coaches and boosters buy each fall.
The calendar has moved up. Coaches and volunteers who once placed orders in August now open their stores in July, both to beat production backlogs and to give families time to pick sizes and pay before the season swallows everyone's schedule. A booster club that waits until the week before tryouts often ends up paying rush fees or handing out gear late.
"Fall is when the phone starts ringing with team orders, and it starts sooner every year," said Conor Smart, founder of Arklavo. "A parent volunteer running a store on the side does not have time to chase a supplier, so the whole thing has to be simple and fast."
Why booster clubs order differently
A volunteer-run club buys nothing like a corporate customer. Few can front thousands of dollars for a bulk run and then hope the size mix matches a roster that is still changing. That gap is why individual ordering has taken hold in school and league programs, where each family picks and pays for its own hoodie, cap or warmup.
Arklavo, a self-funded custom apparel company founded in 2023 and rebranded in 2025, sets no order minimums, so a coach can order a single embroidered jacket or outfit an entire squad. Across its recent orders, the company has seen more clubs run open stores where families order directly, which spares the volunteer from collecting cash and guessing quantities. In-house embroidery, direct-to-garment printing and heat press keep small runs affordable, and a two-day production window plus free U.S. shipping over $150 help gear arrive before opening day.
The pattern points to a longer trend. As team stores grow past athletes to reach parents, alumni and superfans, demand for caps, hoodies and spirit pieces keeps widening the market well beyond the uniform itself. Programs planning their fall lineup can browse styles and pricing across Arklavo's custom sports team apparel range before the roster is even final.
